Up and Down Start To World Series For Farr

Most athletes visualise those defining moments in their given sport that shape a season or better still lead to that ultimate prize they yearn for.

For Farr, who makes no bones about it, the dream, and the associated drive is to hold aloft the World Series Sprintcars crown.

Never in his wildest dreams would he entertain the thought of a rollover in hotlaps on the opening night of competition.

Unfortunately for Farr and the East Coast Pipeline team, they lived out that exact nightmare when a broken front end during the hotlap period at Brisbane International Speedway sent the immaculate Vermeer / Orrcon products J&J into orbit.

We pretty much got off to the worst possible start you can imagine.Explained a dejected Farr.

To end up on our lid because of a part failure was depressing.

The team managed to fit a new front end but with minimal time took to qualifying.

We didn¹t realise it at the time but the flip had damaged the steering box and we qualified with not a lot of right hand lock on the car.

I managed to wrestle the car and time 9th which was pretty decentconsidering.

Starting from near the back of the heats is always a dicey exercise and a spinning car from the front row of the second heat, and subsequent contact, ended with another front end destroyed.

We couldn¹t believe our luck and now had to start the B-Main.

We were very nervous and just took no risks at all.

We took it so cautious and just wanted to get a transfer as you can¹t make up any points if you don¹t at least start the A-Main!

Nick Speed and Sean Grealy went to work on the car and made a few changes for the feature.

The car was fast!

We had a real good feature race and we came away from the night feeling a lot more like we had had a win.

We salvaged a lot tonight, and managed to get a bit of a result.

If you look at the result, a fifth place finish after starting from back in the 17th starting spot, the team have pulled one out of the hat and know that it goes a long way towards maintaining their chance at that elusive prize.

If you look back, there are always those crucial moments that can change a whole series.

Hobart was that moment for us last year.

We certainly know exactly how bad this could have been for us.

The team took the momentum to Toowoomba for Round 2 and produced a nights racing that East Coast Pipeline team are renowned for.

We timed good, and had good car speed all night.

We won the shootout thing by timing quickest which gave us the pole for the feature.

Robbie led away from the drop of the green and as is often the case made one erroneous move approaching lapped traffic which cost him the his twentieth career win in the series.

I made a bad call trying to get a lapped car between us.

I dove to the bottom and there was just nothing down there and Brooke drove right around us.

I had been running the top and after Brooke went by I went back up and followed him all the way to the finish.

³Sometimes you are better off running second going into traffic.

The team now head back to Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway where they demolished the local posse on route to four straight wins earlier this year.

Amazingly Farr, who has 21 feature wins at the Sydney venue, is yet to claim a World Series Sprintcars feature victory at his home track.

We should have won there last year.

We won the preliminary night ( which doesnt count as an official WSS win ), and then got passed by Mitchell Dumesny on the last corner on the feature night.

A win this weekend would be a massive boost to the championship chances no doubt, but Farr is more concerned on maintaining a hold on championship leader Brooke Tatnell in the short term.

If we can peg a few points back on Brooke this weekend I¹d be happy.

We need to stay in touch approaching SpeedWeek as that is a time that tends to make or break the championship.

The East Coast Pipeline team may have not started their World Series Sprintcars campaign in a dream fashion, but find themselves sitting a solid second on the standings and with plenty of confidence going forward.

They obviously had Parramatta City Raceway wired a month ago, the question is, can they utilise the knowledge gained and get that first World Series Sprintcars Round win this weekend?

The team would like to thank the ongoing support from its sponsors for the 2009/2010 season:
